SINCE THE DOWNLOAD MINISTRY OF thruthebible.ca is free of charge, we need
access to huge amounts of bandwidth at no cost as well. A "web farm" is
the perfect solution!
THE CONCEPT OF A WEB FARM is the hosting of files on multiple servers in
order to share bandwidth demand. Web sites who chose to support THRU THE
BIBLE will upload one or more files to their server, allowing thruthebible.ca to link to those files. By downloading from these external web sites, more
capacity becomes available than from a single web site, and at no cost.
A TYPICAL WEB HOSTING CONTRACT often provides much more capacity than is ever actually required. For example, the hosting contract for thruthebible.ca with Infinology costs US $6.95 per month, and provides 9 gigabytes (GB) of storage and 50 GB of bandwidth per month. The typical demand of a normal web site would be in the order of 300 MB of storage and one GB of bandwidth per month. The remaining capacity would normally be wasted. It is a portion of this excess capacity that we are asking people to donate to help us share God's Word with a lost world.
WE ARE ASKING THAT PEOPLE DONATE at least 100 MB of storage and 10
GB or more of monthly bandwidth. Direct access to your server is not
required or desired, but merely the online location of where you have uploaded
Dr. McGee's files.
YOUR DONATION OF EXCESS WEB SPACE costs you nothing. There
is, however, the potential that should there be a spike in demand for the
particular book
of the Bible you are hosting, you could exceed your monthly bandwidth allotment
and incur a surcharge from your hosting company. By the active monitoring
of the bandwidth demand, no member of our web farm has ever incurred such
a surcharge. Typically we aim to use only 50% of your donated bandwidth which
allows a 50% comfort margin in bandwidth usage. For example, with our hosting
contract of 50 GB of allowable bandwidth each month, we aim to use
about 25 GB of bandwidth on average.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
The area of greatest need is the Complete Zipped Book area:
thruthebible.ca/zipComplete.htm. Simply
download any available zipped file as you normally would, and then upload
that same file to your server. Let me know
by email where it is located on your website, and I will edit my link to point
to your server. One week's notice is required if you intend to delete that
file off of your server.
